This park is so underrated. Birds like the Painted Bunting, Black-capped Vireo, Golden cheeked Warbler. And many many more. It really is quite amazing.
It has three bird blinds. The birds are fed every morning and if money permits every afternoon. It is sponsored by a non profit group that takes care of blinds food and I think upkeep.
Here are a few bird I photographed there in the last month.
Pentax K-3, 500mm, F/6.3, ISO 800, 1/400 (Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens)
The park is right off I-10. So, there are very good hotels in the area. If camping (what I do) the park has full hook up's for camping (water, sewer, electrictity ). My little pop-up is right at home there.
Many many people are into birding these days. The camera gear is really exceptional. So, If you want a photo of any of these birds it costs 24 dollars a day. And I always leave a donation for the non profit people that run the bird blinds. This park is EXCEPTIONAL.
In the next two years I hope to come back and spend a winter in Texas on the Texas birding trail.
Bird migration in Texas is said to be an unbelievable experience. That I hope to experience before I get too old to enjoy it..
