The mark IV is a pretty big jump in price from the 7D? Is it worth it? It is for me and now I wish I has gotten the 1Dx. But I will hold off for a couple of years now I think.
This camera is a bit different for me and I have put it threw the paces the last few days. From BIF to dark jungle.
I find the low light AF to be better than the 7D. Much more accurate.
With the 300 and 500 with a T.C. (1.4). I find it a god send. It is just much better than the 7D all the way around.
I bought the camera for the AF not the quality of the picture. But I am finding I like the picture quality. I really like the high ISO. It produces a very nice noise and easy for me to deal with. But not any better than the 7D in the noise department IMO. Just a beautiful file and noise pattern for post processing.
I tell you now. It does not produce the details I am used to with the 7D. When the 7D hits AF and I do my job it produces an incredible amount of information to play with. And it just does a remarkable job. There is no substitute for pixels on the subject period IMO.
If Canon ever updates the 7D? It will be the birders camera for the next few years for sure I think. Better AF and faster processing with Pixels on the subject will be a bird dream machine. The lens technology is here now. The new 300 II and 500 II I have are up to the task I think. Now for the camera.
For me a good upgrade. Just for the AF alone. The IQ is a bonus.
As always birding free. Your backyard is a great place. Mine in Texas is great. I am amazed when I open the door to go somewhere. I look, listen and always see or hear a bird. Next time you open your door take a moment to look and listen....
