At the entrance, ask where the bird viewing area is. And head there early if possible. It opens at 9:00 AM, late for birders.
The shelter is very nice with windows and an opening on each end for photographing the birds.
Bring some oranges and cut them up and put them on the fence in front of the viewing area. The woodpeckers and others love them. The Golden fronted Woodpecker is easily photographed there, they love oranges. Also it is a very good place for native Texas plants. If you have never seen the native Texas plants it is worth a look see for sure. Just beautiful.
The Golden fronted woodpecker is easily photographed there. Put a few orange pieces on the fence and wait.
I have more pics at my flickr site here.
Birds I saw today.
Black chinned hummingbird, thrush, mockingbird, sparrows, golden fronted woodpecker, cardinals. Inca Dove.
